Introduction

The "Riff Playbooks" column is designed to make you a better player. By gleaning some insight into the technique, composition, and execution of these fine riffs by fine SH artists, you are bound to make headway in your own playing. We cordially invite you to steal a page from our books in order to expand your own diabolical playbook of musical wizardry (not literally though, the books are expensive to create).

While in Toronto this past summer for the inaugural Sheet Happens guitar clinic, our senior Australian riff correspondent, Plini, once again graced the SH office for a quick rundown of one of his riffs. This time he covers a section of the song "Away" from his 2013 "Sweet Nothings" EP, which is comprised of a two-hand tapping passage that provides an important melodic and rhythmic backbone to the song. We decided to forgo the interview portion of the article this time, as we've punished this man enough in recent Riff Playbooks. And there we have it, another lesson in Plini-ism, which I think we can safely define as being very good at guitar and being very chill about it.
